Green Girdle from Gawain's Shield

Green Girdle

Although we think of a girdle as something else today, the girdle described in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight would have been worn as a belt. This pattern uses the i-cord technique and a simple cable stitch to create a narrow, textured belt.

Yarn
Round Table Yarns Gawain (100% Merino, 400 yds/366 m per 100 g skein); less than 1 skein; sample uses colorway Green Knight
or about 100 yds (92 m) of another fingering weight yarn (yardage will vary based on desired length)

Materials
US 3 (3.25 mm) two double pointed needles
Cable needle

Gauge
24 sts and 32 rows over 4″ (10 cm) of stockinette, blocked, gauge is not critical for this pattern
